Well, tonight's organized chaos turned out to end in a happy surprise for me. Running from the English majors' banquet with Art Lindsley at 6:30 (and leaving early to do so, mind you) to my room to grab my passport to go to my BFC meeting at the Hollingsworths' and then from there (again, leaving early) running to the Phantastes reading group a little after 9 certainly tested my strength. But it turned out to be all the more convenient that I should be late to the reading, since it gave my sneaky little friends a chance to prepare for a birthday surprise for me. (^_^)

Michael mysteriously began to ask if they should begin "the singing" or something, and my first thought was, "oh no, don't tell me we're taking up a new tradition of singing a hymn or something before every meeting like we always do in class" (not that that's a bad thing, but it would be sort of odd in that setting). Then, after some clandestine looks and whispers, I realized what was about to befall me. The singing of "Happy Birthday" to none other than myself. I loved it, yes, but man was I embarrassed, lol. Then Michelle handed me a card that everybody (and then some) had signed, a beautiful drawing Elizabeth made for me, and an expertly iced cupcake from a plate holding a batch of them that she made herself (love love!). I tell you, I love those guys. I love them. Do you hear me, guys? I love you! Honestly, I figured my birthday would be overlooked this year since I'm not going to be in town for most of my actual birthday anyway... due to my extended weekend at home to come, weeeee.

I am a happy little bean.

A Blessing or Two in Spite of the Pain

Despite the hardships I have faced in the last week or so, today's having been the worst of them all, I do not entirely regret getting out of bed this morning. I got the package my mom sent me in the mail, so now I have chocolate and cinnamon fire Jolly Ranchers (yay!) plus some cold relief just in case I get sick in the near future. And of course, my personal favorite for this time of year, my parents got me a stuffed animal. I'm a sucker for stuffed animals. He is, as Adam put it at dinner tonight, a "bee-bear hybrid," and I don't have a name for him yet.... but I'll think of something.

At present, I am done with classes for the week. w00t. All of us senior "literary types" took the ETS Major Field Exam tonight from 7:30 to 9:30... so I missed House ;_; and that makes me sad. At least I got to watch the next disc of Magic Knights Rayearth with Becca afterward as a sort of crappy-day consolation prize. Once we finished that up, I was reminded of my Junior/Senior woes when a discussion on the subject was struck up with Laura and Katie. I wanted just once to be asked (as a surprise, not some "hey, you already know I was thinking about asking you, so.... wanna go?" or "I don't have a date.. you don't have a date... ya dig?" like I've had happen a couple times) to a banquet, but it's my last banquet at Bryan and it's not looking too good for the home team. Even if I took matters into my own hands, I don't know who I'd ask. The person I hoped might possibly ask me is already asking someone else, so I'm out of ideas and almost out of time. I'll go ahead and get myself a ticket (since they're only on sale this week *growl of aggravation*), but I haven't decided whether I'm going officially or not.

All right, there's your update. I'll try to keep my game face on in public, but you might not see much of me until the V-Day Banquet since I still have a lot of sewing left to be done for my outfit and the deadline is drawing near.

In spite of my Xanga page "makeover" (which I have grown to like very much actually), I have come to a decision. I'm ignoring Valentine's Day this year. Not accepting it. Not rebelling against it. Ignoring it. The only thing I'll be accepting is the idea that February 14th is just another day and has no special meaning whatsoever (except perhaps that it's the day that Music and Lyrics comes out in theaters, weee!). I'm no better or worse because of the day, and it is merely a mile marker of 9 days till my 22nd birthday. I'm not going to wear all black to mourn it or eat a whole bunch of chocolate to ward it away. I'm going to go about business as usual.

Even though she rolled her eyes at the fairly trite nature of Kyriandre’s advice, she knew that it was true now. Deep down she understood that she shouldn’t bleed herself dry for a lost cause, but she also didn’t intend to give up too easily. A lump formed in her throat when she thought of the last look Maleon gave her before he walked away. When Kyriandre saw the slight change in her composure, she offered a squeeze of her hand for reassurance. Azrylle lifted her eyes to meet Kyriandre’s as she strengthened her resolve.

“I’ll get him back, Kyrie. I will.”

And good times were had by all...

Now that I've finished the series (*tear*), I cannot help but reflect on some of the good moments toward the end, even if the show as a whole was an absolute mess...

Interesting Beginning...

If this day is any indication of the semester to come, then it ought to be interesting - in other words, full of ups and downs, lucky moments, and bizarre situations. I didn't have to sit through the long line for registration today (yay!) because apparently I'm completely taken care of academically and financially... for the moment anyway, lol. I had many good encounters with people, some bad (or at least not all that great), and one confusing one.... really confusing. Oh well. Then, after lunch and after Michelle registered, she and I went to Walmart to get some stuff we realized we needed once we got here and settled in. A lot of stuff, actually. Needless to say, I won't be needing or even wanting to go back to Walmart for a while!

When we got back, we went to our rooms until dinner at 6... and then found out that dinner was at 5, not 6 - we didn't get that email in time. -_- So we figured, hey, this is the only Tuesday we're going to be able to take advantage of 35 Cent Wing Night at Buffalo Wild Wings because we will have Study of Film on Tuesday nights hereafter (and then House at 9, of course!)..... so we decided to go. And after I put up a reserve sign on the TV for House and as I was jogging to Michelle's car, a blood vessel in my right ring finger burst! What the crap!? So now it's purple. Yay.

Anyway, the food was great (and cheap =D), and we made it back to watch House with time to spare, and now I'm relaxing in my room, chatting with my roomie, and watching this funny Korean TV drama called Full House (yeah, you read that right, and no, it doesn't have anything to do with our American 90s sitcom Full House, lol).

Saw this on TBS and died laughing!

This was featured on the year's funniest commercials show on TBS, but I had seen it on TV before, and it caught me by surprise the first time I saw it. I cracked up!

I saw Children of Men tonight and thought it was pretty good. I liked the storyline, didn't so much appreciate the language (too many JCs for my liking), shifted uncomfortably during the blatant boob shot (I was sitting next to my dad), and scoffed at the computer animated newborn baby (psh!! if you're going to do it, do it right!). I've decided that I would rather see a regular baby and know that it's supposed to look like a newborn than have an inevitably unconvincing and thus rather cheesy computer animated baby the entire time. Gag. And I must say, the trailer is particularly misleading on a subject or two.

Don't let my three complaints deceive you though. I did enjoy the movie, even if it was bittersweet. I was among an unresponsive crowd in that theater though, I tell you what - they didn't laugh at a single funny thing in the whole first half of the movie, probably because they weren't expecting humor. But hey, I chuckled. I managed to keep my sadness about the end-of-the-world-ness in check until the part of the movie where all the men with guns stopped fighting because they saw the baby... and at that point, I cried like a baby. It was moving.

It started out decently well. Even though I got up two hours than I normally would on a Monday, it was to do my first day's bit of work for Dr. Lay, and it wasn't bad at all. Plus, I really like the new student worker Olivia Pool who I'm sort of "training," so it's all good there. Then the fit hit the shan, as it were. I found out from Becca that Theory & Pedagogy, a required course for my major, is not offered next semester, which is the suck, since I'm not enrolled in it for this semester. Thus, I panicked. I went and talked to Mr. Harle, and he printed out the syllabus and all that stuff for me, so I'll be filling out a drop/add form to join the class now.

I bet those of you who didn't know how my semester already looked are thinking, "Yay, it's all fixed." Not likely. See, my workload was already, as I've already described my previously mentioned situation, the suck. Basically, more reading (time-wise) than there are hours in the day. Perhaps I mentioned the 100+ pages of reading for Shakespeare we were assigned the first day of class to be done by the next class? Perhaps not.

But yeah. From a well-earned 15 credit hours to a whopping more-than-earned 18 hours. I'm going to die.

Mr. Positive says: But, hey, just think how breezy your last semester will be!

And I say: That's true. Too bad I won't be mentally stable enough to enjoy it.

P.S. On top of everything else, the elevator decided to stick on the third floor on my way back to my room from all of the stressful events. After several attempts to make the evil, hot, stuffy, metal box of Satan go up one last floor, I gave up, walked to the end of the hall, and took the stairs. Yippee.

So last night, I drove over to Andy's apartment, and from there we went to Rafferty's and then to AMC to see X-Men: The Last Stand (weeee!), which was excellent, by the way. And for those of you who've not seen it yet, stay until after the credits, because there IS something at the end.

Anyway, Andy and I didn't do much else the rest of the night but go to sleep since it was already late. So we got up the next morning and headed off once again to the Renaissance Festival... this was our last time for the Georgia festival this year *sniffle*. The best part of the day actually came at the end, because not only did we get in a whole lot of talk time with the actors after their series of shows were over, but we also went out to eat Chinese and go bowling with a few of them and their friends from the North Carolina festival who had come down to visit them this weekend. Although Andy had one previous experience, this was the first time that I had actually seen Brett, Jana, and Dextre out of costume and in "normal" clothes, hehehehe. It was seriously some of the most fun I've had in a loooong time, and I'm glad I've gotten to know those three so that I could meet and get to know their friends from NC and Brett's family. Awesome people!!! And now it's all over... ;_; ...till next year. ^_^

As a side note before I go, I was watching the news momentarily while searching for something on TV a little while ago, and they were saying something about how some school systems are considering (or maybe they've actually already decided, I dunno) disciplining students if they have something offensive or something on their blogs, saying they wouldn't monitor the blogs per se, but they would take action if something came to their attention. All I have to say about that is that it's a bunch of bullocks! I am so glad to be out of that completely homogay public school system. They're trying more and more to run (and RUIN) the lives of every one of their students and control things that they have no right to touch. It would be one thing if someone heard talk of murder (like, actual murder, not like my occasional jesting "I'm going to kill you" and "I wish the human race would go bye-bye" comments), but I don't think that's what they're talking about here. And anyway, if some kid is going to be stupid and actually post plans about bombing a school, that should be the feds' business, not the school system. Hey, school systems! Quit being pricks and try butting out for a change, huh?? I reiterate, and I don't think I could say it enough to overemphasize my enthusiasm, I am SO. Freaking. Glad I am out of that miserable excuse for a public school system.
